Lifesize Bolter

October 27th, 2004

Added matte wrapping to the pistol grip,
I think it's much more appropriate.

How I Made the Bolter

I tinkered it together mainly out of foamboard mostly! The first step was to I print out large pics of the minis - large enough so I could measure the bolter fairly accurately.

Cardboard & foamboard make the basic shape, I glued some braces on the inside so that I could have a pvc tube lodge up inside the bolter and extend down to form the structural basis for the pistolgrip, this tube later had handgrip pieces hotglued to it, and that was wrapped in padded hockey tape :)

The barrel is from a tube of pringles potato chips. The little details are made up of various odd things cut and sanded to shape then glued on.

The forward grip is half of a Nestle Quick chocolate mix container slid up over the forward body of the bolter. adhesive strips of foam insulation make up the soft forward grip :) The Imperial Eagle is from a mold I made a while back - details of the Imperial Eagle mold are online here.

The rest is painting & weathering.

The action on this bolter does work (you can pull the breach cover open to view the breach, the cover then slams shut when you let it go), maybe someday I'll post pics but it was a real pain to make I doubt I'll bother adding that detail if I ever make another bolter.
