For ages across many worlds and many civilizations prophets have foretold
the coming of sweeping pestilence and blight through dreams and other signs
- Imperial scholars have found a few of the legends to hold some measure
of consistency. Once example of this is that many legends tell of village
prophets having terrifying/sanity blasting dreams and visions of a great
indescribable deamon writhing in an endless sea of filth and decay - sounds
of creatures suffering the most vile stages of disease and affliction fill
the air (some versions describe this sound as being the laughter of the
terrible deamon). Many descriptions of this dream involve a death
shroud which appears partially embedded in the deamon's flesh. Bits of
this shroud the deamon tears off and flings into the miasma of disease
- causing a sudden and violent proliferation of disease and horrible mutation
amongst the creatures already suffering so horribly. When pressed to describe
these effects many of the prophets and visionaries became quite agitated
- some would go into convulsions, some into comas - others died outright.
Of the many things in these visions which terrified the visionaries, it
was the shroud fragments which brought the most profound sense of dread
- for the impression was that it was something special which the deamon
was sending specifically for the visionary and his lands. that great epidemics
and mutations actually DID follow these dreams only seemed to confirm the
premonitions. Detailed descriptions of these shroud fragments are difficult
to come by (many prophets with the most detailed visions lost much of their
sanity - especially when pressed about the fragments) but all fragments
of this deathshroud are said to be bloodied in some fashion, and all are
soaked in the foulness of the diseased deamon - spreading the most terrible
diseases and mutations wherever they are seen.
