1000pt Recon Mission

return to Battle Reports Main Menu

okay, sorry this one isn't as detailed as the last battle report, but I was caught up in the glorious assault (this is already sounding bad for the Imperial Guard, isn't it?) and forgot to take notes.

It was a recon mission, on a 48 inch wide table. not much room between the 2 battle lines from the very beginning. bwahahahaha!!!

This battle was played using the 4th edition assault rules.

I didn't get his list, but Dan basically had 2 sentinels, a leman russ, a command section with commisar, and a bunch of infantry.

Deployment: well, there was plenty of cover on my side.  both tac squads holed up in ruins and brought their heavy weapons to bear. the whirlwind hunkered down, driving halfway under the ruins ooccupied by tac squad 2. behind them was the chaplain and his 7 man death company (only 1 of them was from the army, I rolled a 6 for his extras, 3+3!) the scouts deployed on the far west side of the battlefield, in a huge forest. they didn't infiltrate, they were able to get closer without infiltrating. the speeder deployed with them in the cover. the terminators took the east side as their own.

the IG deployed their 5 infantry squads across the battlefield, with the command section in the center. the leman russ bolstered the line from the edge of the table, on the west side but close to the center. the 2 sentinels formed 2 seperate units but both set up on the east side, matched up with the terminators.

IG turn 1:  the leman russ swiveled its battle cannon to fire on the cluster of BA in the center of the table. It managed to kill one member of the DC, 4 members of Tactical Squad 2, and stun the whirlwind. the infantry squad on the west side opened up on the scouts. 1 was killed by a frag explosion. the entire east flank of the army fired on the terminators, managing to cut down one in a hail of las. bummer.

BA turn 1: the speeder lifted up out of the trees and flew towards the Leman Russ, coming to a halt in the middle of an open field, vulnerable to every squad of imperial guard on the table.. it opened up with its multi-melta and managed to shake the crew through the incredible front armor of the tank.  the scouts moved a full six inches and stopped at the base of the hill occupied by the guardsmen who had just shot down one of their number. they failed to run up the hill however, and waited for another round of las from the guardsmen.  the death company jumped over the ruins and moved forward 12 inches to hid behind a hill.  tactical squad 2's lascannon vaporized the closest sentinel. the terminators advanced into the open field.

IG turn 2: every weapon in the imperail guard arsenal was directed at the land speeder...when the smoke cleared, the land speeder had survived without a scratch. the leman russ drove away and cowered behind a tower. the driver anticipated pursuit, and swiveled his vehicle so that the speeder would once again have to attack the front armor. fool.

BA turn 2: the speeder went around the tower the other way, and fired point blank into the side armor of the leman russ, this time melting the battlecannon. the scouts moved up the hill and assaulted the guardsmen. 6 of the 10 guard fell, taking 1 scout with them. they passed their morale check and stayed in combat. the terminators advanced again, as did the death company. the DC assaulted and blew through a small infantry squad, while the thunder hammers in the terminator squad destroyed the other sentinel.

IG turn 3: with the battle cannon gone, the leman russ lost much of its value. the guard turned their flashlight guns elswhere. a large part of the army, faced with 6 assault terminator, fired at the advancing behemoths. 2 terminators fell. the guardsmen turned to run, then saw the death company coming from the other direction. they gulped, then dug in and prepared to die. over on the western flank, the remaining scouts killed off their opponents, but the other guardsmen near them did not flee when they saw their comrades butchered.

BA turn 3: the speeder, with its multi-melta actually touching the rear armor of the leman russ, fired again, somehow knocking off the hull-mounted lascannon (?!).  the terminators and DC assaulted into the remainder of the enemy, while the scouts meandered about in the guard deployment zone, waiting to rack up their extra 200 victory points.

GAME CALLED

MVP: The Land Speeder. it effectively neutralized the leman russ, while enduring 2 grueling rounds of fire.

Lessons Learned: not really any. it seemed to me that the IG shooting just wasn't there this game. you couldn't tell from the report, but he missed so often...
