Blood Angels
VS.
Chaos (Nurgle Army)
2000pt Meatgrinder Scenario

This battle gets nasty everyone - Plague Marines, Chaos Terminators & Chaos Lord battle Death Company, Sanguinary High Priest & Honor Guard in a fight to the FINISH!

A note before the battle report begins.

Some of the fiercest fighting in history has happened because of miscommunication - this battle is a prime example of this. For whatever reason I (the Blood Angels player) selected a force and made my first two moves believing that "I" was the attacker in the "Meatgrinder" scenario - but after my second move I learned that the Blood Angels were indeed the defenders! :-) Needless to say things would have been done a little differently had this been known (or understood!) a little earlier! Oh well :-) The game was really quite exciting, and shows what carnage can happen when you have two powerful forces heading right toward each other! :-) Hope you enjoy!

Deployment

Gamestart - the massively troop heavy Chaos army deploys in a long line across their side of the field. The Blood Angels deploy in a concentrated area towards one side of their line (hoping to use the terrain in that part of the field to protect their assault element as it moves to engage the enemy! Blood Angle razorbacks with devastator squads are positioned more to the center of the field - with an eye on establishing a solid firebase early - and doing a lot of shooting for the rest of the game :-)

Blood Angels Turn 1

Moving forward as a whole, the Blood Angels begin their assault drive believing it is their mission to wipe out the Chaos army to the last man. the razorbacks move forward - one popping smoke as it moved over 6 inches to get into position, the other razorback chose to move just under six inches and fire a shot.

The Assault element was keenly aware of the chaos havoc groups which had full line of sight as they moved from the trees to the nearby cover of the next hill. Using the rhinos as a double shield to protect the Vindicator, the group moves forward - the Sanguinary High Priest, his Honor Guard and the Death Company are also screened by the vehicles - both rhinos deployed smoke (we expected heavy firing from the enemy - because that's what we would have done!) :-)

Here's a view from one of the Blood Angel razorbacks - plenty of bad guys that need killin' in those trees over there!

A view from the Chaos side - smoke obscures most of the Blood Angels - they appear to be heading to the extreme right flank (making a lot of those Khorne berserkers put on their jogging shoes!). The Blood Angel plan is in fact that - to hit the flank of the enemy line (while the devastators work to reduce the numbers of the center of the Chaos army).

End of Blood Angel Turn 1.
