The rebel Imperial Guard's first turn of firing actually wiped out the BA rhino and Tac Squad (the tac squad was in h2h combat with the IG unit in the middle of the bridge, but the exploding rhino killed all the remaining IG troops involved in that combat (the Space Marines easily made their armor saves) leaving the Space Marines unengaged, which allowed other IG units to fire on (and wipe out) the remaining tac squad guys. Therefore on the next BA turn we had our devastator guys hop out and start running up into the bridge towers (something they should have done on their first turn) and the razorback drove at top speed right toward the enemy just to absorb some firing, and maybe even block a bit of line of sight - our speeder swooped in for much the same - although we had hopes it might pull off a lucky multimelta shot and toast an Earthshaker (the shot went wide though) and the Death Company stepped up to bat to take the fight to the enemy.... The next turn ended up being the last (running short on time) the IG firing was insane with not one but two ordnance templates actually landing right on our Chaplain's head - destroying him, and all but two DC guys - the razorback disappeared, as did the speeder... this combined with other losses totalled nearly half of the Blood Angels entire army, and none of our units had made it more than halfway across that bridge... Lessons Learned This bridge is really a fortress with a handy
walkway right through the middle so you can shoot visitors.... I believe
that the amount of firepower that a clever IG player can stack in there
is able to kill any three units that can pile onto the bridge - and that's
about the most that anyone can physically fit onto it in one turn.... Therefore,
the solution lies in reducing the enemy troops inside the fortress before
attempting the bridge crossing... I believe the ideal solution for Blood
Angels will be the use of infiltrators perhaps combined with teleport homers
and terminators to sneak in - survive a turn of shooting by staying behind
cover - then bringing in terminators for up close shooting and assaults
to destroy enemy heavy support and cause havoc within their ranks... perhaps
the entirity of the force should be used in this fashion? we shall see...
