I thought they had more character than the conventional setup

and doesn't our battle brother look happy inside? Sure
he's missing some limbs, and some arms, and some legs,
and maybe some skin... but we've wired him up
nicely inside the dreadnought, and he's happy to
still be able to serve the Emperor!
