Mega Update!
Wow. Somehow ELEVEN MONTHS have gone by without an update!
I do have a good reason though, for it was around time last year that
my baby daughter was born and believe me life has been hectic ever since!
I have however fought tooth and nail to retain my sanity (though many will
argue the effectiveness of my struggles!). Here below are the projects
which I have begun since the last site update ten/eleven months ago.
When Worlds Collide!
August 2007 - Baby (then five months old) meets the Reaver Titan.
(this photo was Katherine's idea!)
My First Mid-Life 40K Crisis!
I should also mention that somewhere during the first few months of
sleep deprivation (um, I mean fatherhood) I kinda freaked out a bit - fretting
that I would no longer have time to build and paint armies. So with that
fear on my mind I began to lurk eBay and acquire mostly assembled armies
that I felt I could paint up to my standards and later build on. I'm pleased
to say I've calmed down a bit here recently (sleeping through the night
does wonders - I recommend it highly) and now I've realized something along
the lines of "Emperor's teeth have I got a bunch of painting to do!" lol
So, with this all in mind, here are the various armies and projects
which I have begun since my last site update - in no particular order...
Almost nothing here is finished, every army has much painting to be
done.
ahem...
Black Templars
Black Templars army
I acquired a nice whole BT army,
and later another purchase added some more units. WIP.
Crimson Fists
Crimson Fists army
This one actually is finished and ready to play. Later of course I'll
add a piece or two - not enough assault units for my liking ;)
Space Wolves
Space Wolves army
I've been a big Space Wolves fan for years, and have finally gotten
around to assembling a fighting force. This collection here is the result
of several eBay auctions. I have enough to field a painted force now, but
I do look forward to completing the painting on all the minis so that the
whole force has an appropriately similar appearance =)
Ultramarines
What 40K collection would be complete without a classic Ultramarines
force? I intend to buck tradition though, and go with the 4th edition gold
trim theme simply because I like the richness of that scheme. I think it
will be a lot of fun to see this force on the table facing off against
my Tyranids =)
Dark Angels
The "Unforgiven". Who could pass up an army with such a dark
secret? Certainly I could not! I look forward to cranking out some really
ellaborate iconography & artwork to bring this army to life :)
Deathwing
Yes these models are independent from the Dark Angels army shown above.
In time I want to be able to field this as a dedicated Deathwing force.
It's not up to strength yet, but these things take time ;)
Come to think of it, if I painted the standard DA force Landraider in Deathwing
colors it and moved those terminators to this force I would have a fieldable
Deathwing army - and still be able to deploy terminators with the standard
DA army albeit they would be taken from this army... but according to Dark
Angels tradition all DA terminators are in their first company, so this
has some tradition behind it... hhmmmm truly a point to ponder! lol
Imperial Fists
(in dire need of paining! lol)
Imperial Fists have always had a special place in my heart as they (along
with the White Scars) stood alongside the Blood Angels in defense of the
Emperor's Palace during the Horus Heresy.
Iron Hands
You just have to love the mindset of "the flesh is weak"! Tricked out
with many bionics, and accompanied by multiple servitors and tech priests
I really look forward to bringing this army up to speed!
Mechanicus
So many servitors! lol
Although 40K doesn't really have a "Mechanicus" army officially, there
are some unofficial ways to go about it. My main purpose for assembling
this little army is for our own house games that favor a "Space Hulk" style
setting, plus I think it would be fun to have a Mechanicus force on hand
to add flavor to any number of scenarios.
Imperial Guard
My Imperial Guard army has grown tremendously.
Here is my original IG army
Below are pics of most of my recent acquisitions. Not shown here
are three Baneblades (including one Armorcast Baneblade)
Another batch of IG reinforcments arrived in one of the big BattleHive
II cases (I highly recommend them, I'd get more if I could find them!).
The trop tray is full of IG troops, lower trays are less full but have
a smattering of vehicles - all of which need painting and some TLC
;)
Adeptus Custodes
Truth be told, I've wanted to make a modes Custodes force ever since
I first saw the artwork in the Horus Heresy art books put out by the Black
Library. At the moment I have a new squad of Terminators, about twenty
or so Space Marines, and I'm assembling an array of various bitz and styrene
to make the armor appropriately modified. this force WILL be my most conversion
heavy army PERIOD. Each model will be heavily converted. My plan is to
have something like three or four squads plus transports and to use them
allied with any of my other Imperial armies. Clearly in any mission the
Custodes would be in overall command.
At the moment I have gathered together two tactical squads (halberd/bolter
Guardians), one terminator squad (all customized of course), one 4th ed
rhino, one 4th ed predator and one Mk I Landraider, one new Predator and
one new Rhino as my basic force. I intend to deploy the terminators and
tac squads (halberd/bolter Guardians) as the core force (which will take
command of any Imperial army that they field with). Vehicles and more units
will deploy only in larger battles. I'll keep yall updated on this project
when I have something interesting to show :)
Enemy Forces
Chaos Legions
In the foreground on the white foamboard you can see my recently acquired
Iron Warriors army. I'm looking forward very much to bringing their detail
up to my standards. Directly behind the Iron Warriors is my Black Legion
army built around Abaddon the Despoiler. I chose to go with the Black Legion
for the Eye of Terror campaign as it let me tinker with units from all
the ruinous powers. With that in mind I have slowly over the years gathered
a number of models for Khorne and Nurgle armies (many of which are in the
white box on the right of the image), as well as Slaneesh and Tzeentzh
(back right corner). The Slaneesh and Tzeentch forces are admittedly understrength,
but in fact at this moment I am awaiting an army deal's worth of reinforcements
which will go to strengthen them =)
Also in the future for my chaos forces, I have been inspired by Forgeworld
to sculpt my own versions of a Bloodthirster and a Great Unclean one -
although both will be around 12 inches in height to represent a truly remarkable
chaos event!
Tyranids
Can someone really have too many Tyranids???
I don't know, but I haven't hit that point yet - so I recently added
this fantastic swarm of claws and fangs to my already fun filled Tyranid
army.
Necrons
I acquired a big honkin Necron army, some painting needs to be finished
but they are mostly ready to go. I've also purchased a Necron Phalanx -
so here in a bit I'll be able to field three Monoliths. That should make
things interesting =)
Eldar Phantom Titan
I finally caved and bought an Armorcast Phantom Titan. I actually like
this one more than the newer ForgeWorld variant. This particular model
is (I believe) an actual Armorcast model (rather than a more modern recast).
There are a couple of pieces that need repair, and the paint is aged appropriately
to the age of original Armorcast. In time I want to clean it thoroughly
and spiff up the paint a bit, but it's still impressive just as is IMHO.
=)
Eldar Reinforcements
On the right half of the middle shelf is my Eldar army which I
have collected slowly over the years (yes - I'm still working on painting
them). On the left half of the middle shelf are the new Eldar reinforcements.
There are a couple new Falcons in that box, plus a smattering of warriors
& such.
On the top shelf is a ver rare photo of my Dark Eldar collection. I
actually completed the army (the classic 6 raider theme) a couple of years
ago but still haven't decided on a color scheme so they have remained primed
black to this day!
On the lowest shelf you can see my two new GW Baneblades - still awaiting
assembly. Curse my penchant for needing a vision before I build the model!
lol
Tau Reinforcements
My teeny tiny Tau army has benefitted from new boxed sets. With the
number of projects on my plate at the moment I'm betting it'll be a good
bit before my attention turns to these Tau, but I do have the models now
at any rate ;)
Epic Titans
(slightly off topic - moderator warning) ;)
Slowly over the years I've worked to acquire a mighty force of Epic
titans as I dearly love epic, and the imagery of such huge war machines
battling in cities is too much for me to resist! At this point though I
think I'm mostly done - time to begin the painting... Now I do have a dozen
or so already painted and already assigned to my Epic armies (both Loyalist
and Traitor), but here are the remaining Warlord Titans I have aquired
- someday I want to have them all fight at once :)
All told I have around forty or so Warlords, plus another dozen or so
Reaver class, and four Imperator Titans. Someday there will be a mighty
battle indeed!
Above & Beyond Projects
My 40K scale
WARLORD TITAN
I made this entirely myself from scratch... still a work in progress...
The carapace mounted weapons bring the full height to a tad over 40
inches.
Notice the Tac Squad & Rhino there at the feet of the titan for
scale.
Yes that's a standard rhino, and a full ten man squad =)
Here is an earlier pic that shows a bit more of the carapace - it took
a bit to get the shape right but I feel it was worth it.
Then there will be battle banners - gotta have battle banners
=)
The torso swivels, the head turns left and right, the eyes light up.
The arms turn left and right and the weapons will rotate and elevate/decline.
Carapace mounted weapons only rotate at this point - mega rocket launchers
are so destructive don't need to be terribly accurate! lol I look
forward to making a mega plasma cannon soon =)
This Warlord will be proudly bear the markings and pennantsof the Legio
Ignatum,
famous for participating in the defense of the Emperor's Palace on
Terra
during the siege by Horus' Traitor Legions. When everything is finished
the whole model will be weathered and receive a protective matte varnish
to give a more realistic finish. ;)
My 40K scale
REAVER TITAN
Yes just to remind everyone I was making Titans for 40K before anyone
even dreamed of 'Apocalypse'. I did so because I just love Titans!
=)
More pics of this Titan can be found here.
Lifesize Bolt Pistol
Sure any yahoo can tinker together a replica Bolt Pistol. I however
am making molds so that I make make all manner of variants (just for fun
mind you!). No I won't be selling any - don't even ask!
3D Computer Graphics
Space Marine Model
As some of you may recall, I have been slowly working on a rather ambitious
40K project (click here for more information)
Here is a peek at my Space Marine model, 100% my work =)
In time I want to animate him (along with some different variants) to show
squads of marines fighting from a distance away. Oh yes, we have the capability
- bwahahaha...
This is still a work in progress, and some things here look a tad different
because I'm making this fit to mostly accurate human proportions. The shoulders
and hips had to be widened though, there was nust no way to make it look
right otherwise.
My Power Armor Project.
On track but on hold for the moment as this the next step of this project
requires a bigger chunk of time than I have free at the moment!
Brother Edward & Baby
Now a year old, Elsbeth (Ellie) has already taken total control of
the house. Shown here with her most devoted servant (Daddy) she plans on
global domination by her 16th birthday. I'm securing my place in the new
regime by providing her highness with snacks, and frequent games of peekaboo
=)
Glory to the Emperor... Emperess? ;)
~ Brother Edward
