Brother Edward's
Adeptus Astartes
Power Armor

~ Project Start October 2003 ~

Basic Finishing

each piece will need to be trimmed & edges sanded (dremel tool), then various straps/fittings affixed to each.

This page will display my progress when this stage begins.

Basic painting

first there will be some testing to find desirable color, and test for toughness (obviously some sort of high gloss sealer will need to be used to help the finished armor resist scratching). Spray enamel paints cannot be used (not appropriate for plastics - they take days to dry and eat away at the plastic), so acrylic sprays need to be found.

Detailing the pieces

Power armor has LOTS of opportunity for detailing. From the ornate artwork of the astartes, to the more functional details of the armor. Adding these will call for any number of unusual items to be used, and in the more ornate artwork it's likely that custom sculpture & casting will be the best way to create the details.

eye lenses
"Most people hot glue their lenses into place, but I used a 2-part epoxy to secure them after having a lens literally drop out of the eye socket on a hot Florida afternoon troop. "

helmet fans

The most successful seems to be 12 volt CPU fans that you can get at Radio Shack or a similar store. Just use 9 volt batteries to power them. TK 861 used small pieces of foam mounted on the bottom of the corners of the fans, then attached the foam corners to the helmet. They are almost completely silent. You don't get any vibration noise.

MOLDING (edging of the armor)
An "edging" of the armor can be simulated with white car door molding for about $2.50/linear foot. You can get colored molding at online auto accessory stores.
