Blood Angels vs. Eldar
1500pt Ambush Mission
May 21, 2002

the mission

The Eldar deploy in a 36inch long, 6inch wide corridor - they are in convoy formation attempting to reach the far side of the board. The Blood Angels deploy 18 inches away from them, and are to destroy as many Eldar as possible. The Eldar get bonus vicotry points for each unit that exists from the far end of the board - I must therefore do my best not to let any get through!

Eldar list

(full details are coming soon)

but from memory it's something like this...

Farseer w/ Warlock bodyguard on jetbikes

Wraithlord

Falcon w/Banshees

Falcon w/ Guardians

2 Guardian Squads

2 Vipers

*I'll post Scott's list when I get it, all these units were geared to the max :)

* also - even though this army is painted with Ulthwe colors it is not being run as an Ulthwe force.

The Setup

Katherine set up the terrain for us - with no idea of what mission we were playing. It came out like this :)

The Eldar deployed like this, two guardian squads in the front (reinforced by a Wraithlord). A Farseer w/ Warlock bodyguards on jetbikes (eeek!) backed up by two vipers (hidden in the trees) and a falcon w/banshees in it and another falcon transport there with a guardian squad bringing up the rear. The Eldar deployed after I did - but as I deployed with hidden setup rules (as stated in the scenario) they weren't quite sure what we had where :)

Here we see the Blood Angels deployment revealed. Mounted veteran tac squads (geared for assault) are on either flank of the Eldar - I didn't like deploying them apart like that (being a firm believer in keeping my units close enough to support each other), but their plan was to drive to the center and get stuck into assaults so they'd be very close to each other once that happened. A shooty tac squad on either side of the field as well - their job is to stand and shoot the entire game. Down the left side of the field you can see my dismounted devastator squad with their razorback - their job is to kill anything that comes down that pathway. If you look carefully past the trees behind the devastators you can see a tiny bit of red which is the whirlwind :) Oh by the way - the scenario calls for the attacker (the Blood Angels in this case) to roll a d6 to see what units arrive for deployment, on a 1 or 2 the unit deploys via reserves - as it turns out all of my army arrived on the field right from the start :) Oh - my Chaplain and Death Company deployed on the right flank - where they could move up behind those trees and shoot for a second turn assault.
