Reply | Edit | Del Batrep- Blood Angels vs. Imperial Guard- part 2.
Greetings my Brothers.
Ok, just woken up, so still very tired. Should wake up soon though.
The battlefield is approximately 6' by 4', and the main objective is
the Tank Factory (Heavily Constructed (3+ cover save!!!) 15" by 20", with
two levels- second level is 6" high) that lay more or less in the center
of the table. They is a small tower block (8" tall) directly to the East
of the factory (with about 3" separating them). Across the street (South)
(8" wide) are two small houses (2" each) and a Large Tower lays to the
South West of the factory (10" high). A Fuel Bowser is located to the far
West, as is another small house. Ruins cover the Eastern side. The rest
of the table is either covered in rubble, bariccades or roads (all of which
class as difficult terrain for movement!).
Tactical Squad one (Lascannon) is placed on the 2nd level of the Tank
Factory, facing to the East. Tactical Squad two (Meltagun) is placed on
the ground level, far back enough so that the enemy cannot shoot at them
from either the East or the West. Force Commander Andromidius is deployed
with them. Chaplain Gorch and his Death Company were placed in the ally
between the factory and the tower block, as was Dreadnought Pax. Both Terminator
Squads and the Assualt Squad were held in reserve.
The Imperial Guard deployed all around my Blood Angels, surrounding
me and outnumbering my force by at least two to one in points value (scary
prospect for me...and I couldn't just charge!). The Leman Russ deployed
next to the Large Tower and could see into the Tank Factory, as could the
Squad of guardsmen that dug-in before it. The Anti-Tank Squad readied their
heavy weapons on top of one of the small houses near the factory and another
Infantry Squad occupied the next building up. The Steel Legion Commander
Section deployed between the two buildings. The Command HQ stood in front
of the Demolisher behind some barricades that blocked the East side of
the street off, both of which have clear LOS down the street towards the
factory. The Death Corps Platoon deployed behind the Tower Block, ready
to storm the factory and take it by force. The Armoured Fist Squad and
the Fire Support Team covered the West side of the board, and had nothing
between them and the Tank Factory bar the 18" that is required in the scenerio
rules.
Pre-battle thought- I could see what my friend was up to. He wanted
to move his Death Corps through the Tower Block and then move into the
factory. The Leman Russ could see directly into the factory, so I'd have
to move it quickly or suffer the consquences. I thought that the AF Squad
would try to charge the western wall, and that the remaining forces would
just stand and fire, hoping to clear me out. With half my force in reserve
I had a hell of a fight on my hands, but all i could do was sit tight and
hope I can shoot enough of them before they charge me. My Death Company
and Dreadnought, however, were going to be my destraction (this works against
my friend, he often forgets the actual objective) and the DC were to go
for the Death Corps, adn the Dreadnoguht to target that Leman Russ then
hunt down as many guardsmen as possible before it was stopped (I was looking
at all those Lascannons and Plasmaguns with some doubt about this). My
2nd Tactical Squad was placed out of sight, hoping it could stop any assualts
that the guard launched into the factory.
I rolled 4 DC for starters, and got another 4 from the Terminator Assualt
Squad, both Tactical Squads and the Assualt Squad. This totals up to 8
DC (not bad...best even actually for me [:D] ).
The Imperial Guard won the roll to see who went first. Unsuprisely he
choose himself to go first.
Turn 1-
The Death Corps advanced towards the Tower Block (as predicted). The
Demolisher rumbled forwards 6" (just in case it fell through and immobilized
itself- see Codex: Cityfight).
The rest of the army stood and shot! 3 Marines from Tactical Squad one
bit the dust as the FS team and the AF Squad poured on the fire. Everything
else missed or did no damage!
The DC jump packed over the Tower Block in front of the Death Corps.
I knew i had to wipe them out to take them out of the game (no falling
back from assaults and hard to scare off with shooting), but the DC were
the men for the job. Dreadnought Pax strode forwards, training it's twin
Lascannons at the hull-down Leman Russ. Tactical Squad 2 raged towards
the AF Squad (NOOO!!!!!) and then moved into the cover of a few small barricades
(no point mvoing them back). I jump packed Force Commander Andromidius
out of the Tank Factory to join them.
The DC gunned down 2 guardsmen from Command HQ, and Dreadnought Pax
failed to damage the Leman Russ. Squad 2 and Andromidius fired at the AF
Squad, killing 2 of them.
The DC was the only unit in assualt range (I missed assualting some
guardsmen with Pax by 1"!!!) so screaming their inhuman rage they leapt
at the fearless guardsmen. Chaplain Gorch crushed the skulls of 3 of his
opponants, and his DC crushed another 3. The guardsmen killing one DC (All
models with 6" can fight, so the Commissar in the Command Squad could fight!).
As the Death Corps never fall back during an assualt each side consolidated
into each other, determined to destroy one another.
Turn 2-
The Command HQ was the only unit to move this Imperial Guard turn, as
they moved to counter-assualt the DC.
Most of this turn's shooting was directed at the Dreadnought. Lascannons
fired, Plasma Cannons destoryed the shadows that filed the city, and Battle
Cannon shells fell around the titianic machine. Only the Plasmaguns of
one of the Infantry Squads managed to damage it, and caused only a shaken
result! Best of all, one of the Plasma troopers killed himself with with
overheated weapon! The remaining fire was directed at Squad 2, which was
obliterated by the FS Team and Chimera
The Colonel led the charge against the monsterous DC, yelling orders
at the top of his voice as he did so. He ducked the wild swing the Chaplain
aimed at him, and then cut down 3 Death Company with his Power Sword. The
remaining DC then proceeded to tear apart the Colonel and his whole Command
Squad. No more DC causualties were caused by the Death Corps, who were
obviously shaken somewhat by their Commader being butchered before thier
eyes. However, their courage didn't fail them and their fought on.
Dreadnought Pax increased it's speed as it began to run towards the
Steel Legion Command Squad as the Black Rage gripped its pilot, the revered
Brother Alixus. A beastial roar immitted from the Machine's vox-casters.
The guardsmen were shocked by its rage and slowed thier firing as it bore
down on them. Commander Andromidius used his jump pack to leap atop the
fuel bowser that the AF Squad were taking cover on top of, and aimed his
ancient Plasma Pistol at their Chimera transport. Squad one moved to block
the entrance of the factory, fearing a sudden onrush of guardsmen.
The only firing of the turn was done by Andromidius, who blew the tracks
off of the Chimera with contemptous ease.
Pax crashed into the Command Section, yet caused more damage to the
surrounding terrain then the guardmen themselves. Dispite this the Lieutenant
bellowed the retreat from the berserk machine. The pilot calmed slightly,
and slowly advanced after the fleeing guardsmen (you can't do sweeping
advances in Cityfights). The Chaplain, chanting linities of faith, crushed
2 more guardmen with his Crozius Arcanium. The Commissar killed another
DC, though 4 Guardsmen were torn limb from limb in return. Andromidius
assualted the AF Squad, silent almost as he beheaded 3 of his opponants
with graceful swings of his Axe. in return one of the guardmen stabbed
him in the leg with his bayonett (ouch...that wasn't nice...). The Af Squad
lost the combat, but didn't fall back (if Andromidius was wearing a Death
Mask like normal then they would have done!!! ARGH!!!).
Turn 3-
Bar the retreating Command Squad (which rallied) no movement occured
this Imperial Guard turn.
The FS TEam fired at the newly visable Tactical Squad yet failed to
wound anyone. The Leman Russ fired its Battle Cannon at the Tactical Squad
as well, and also totally missed (thank the Emperor!!!). The remaining
firepower was directed at the seemingly indestructable Dreadnought. Ever
shot simply bonced off or just caused a Shaken result...until the Demolisher
fired it's weapons. The Lascannon missed, but one Plasma Cannon hit and
Pentrated the Dreadnought's rear armour...luckly it was hull down behind
the house, and therefore only blew the D.C.C Weapon off of it.
The DC continued to battle against the annoyingly unbreakable Death
Corp. Chaplain Gorch caused 3 causaulties, and 2 more were killed by his
three remaining DC. The guardsmen failed to do any damage in return. Andromidius
continued to reap through his foes, cutting down 2 more unforntunate guardsmen,
and received no wounds in return. The brave guardsmen refused to break.
At last! My Assualt Squad arrived on the Eastern board edge, rushing
to relieve my hard-pressed marines in the factory complex. They moved up
behind the lumbering Demolisher, intent on removing this threat first.
The Tactical Marines opened fire on the guardsmen that were dug-in ahead
of the Leman Russ, gunning down 2 of them (@#%$ those cover saves!). The
Assualt Marines fired their Plasma Pistols at the rear armour of the tank
and destroyed it with a lucky glancing hit.
The DC Killed 4 more guarsmen and wounded the Commissar, bringing the
platoon down to only 3 Guardsmen and the Commissar. Andromidius killed
2 more guardsmen, and this was enough for them now. The broke and fled
passed thier Chimera. Andromidius moved behind the bowser, ready for next
turn. Dreadnought Pax charged the Anti-Tank Squad, failing yet again to
kill any of the guardsmen. The guardsmen lost moral high ground (again)
and fell back.
We rolled to see if the game continued...and it did...
Turn 4-
All the routed guard units rallied, but no movement happened bar that
turn.
The dug-in squad returned fire at the Tactical Squad and shoot down
2 marines (and this moment I swore violently..."How come you can pass 6+
inv. Saves, yet I can't pass 3+ inv. saves? F***!!!!!!!"). The Leman Russ
fired it's Heavy Bolters and Lascannon at them as well, and killed another
1 marine. The FS Team fired at the barely visable andromidius and killed
him! (ARGH!!!! I FAILED 2 OUT OF 3 2+ SAVES!!!!!!) Andromidius slumped
to the floor, his armour in tatters and blood driping from his open mouth.
The DC killed the last of the Death Corps (at last!) adn consolidated
back towards the factory.
The Teminator Squad apeared next, though I knew that they would play
little or no part in this game now.
The Death Company jump packed back towards the factory, hoping to reinforce
the Tactical Marines next turn (if they died before they got there then
I was in trouble). The Assualt Marines jumped in front of the guard squad
on top of one of the houses ready to assault. Dreadnought Pax moved towards
the Leman Russ. The Tactical Squad failed it's Balck rage test and ran
out of the building...so i just walked them back in again (if I didn't
then I might have lost!).
Pax fired at the Russ, doing no damage. The Assualt Marines gunned down
4 guardsmen. The Tactical Squad was out of range (I hate rapid fire weapons...).
The Assualt Squad assualted the guardsmen, howling as they did so. The
guardsmen were all killed before the assualt marines even landed atop thier
corpses. They consolidated towards the AT Squad.
Again we rolled to see if we got another turn...and we did..bad news
for me...
Turn 5-
The dug-in guardsmen moved forwards against the tank factory in the
hope of beating the marines out of the building. The Leman Russ ignored
the Dreadnought (to my suprise I must admit) and moved in behind the guardsmen
(he was hoping to ram through into the factory next turn!). The FS team
and the rallied AF Squad also advanced on the factory. If I wasn't careful
I would be swamped!
The AT Squad and the remaining guardsmen from the Command Squad fired
at the Assault Marines (ignoring my Dreadnought...bad move...) and killed
3 of them. The advancing guardsmen fired at the Tactical Marines again
and killed another pair of marines (*sigh*), leaving only three Blood Angels
in the whole factory.
The guardsmen assaulted my Tactical Marines, killing one and losing
one man. i lost the moral high ground, broke, and got caught in a crossfire
from the Land Russ!!! (@#%$!!!) At this point my friend thought he's won,
but I pointed out that he needed to hold the factory until the end of my
turn...
My Assualt Terminators arrived...but too late. Figures.
The Terminators advanced and the Assualt Marines dropped in front of
the remaining guardsmen. Dreadnought Pax 'ran' after the Leman Russ. The
Death Company moved into the factory (saving me the game...for now...).
Bolt Pistol fire from the DC and Assault Squad killed 3 guardsmen apiece.
The Dreadnought stunned the Leman Russ (much to my friend's annoyance [:D]
).
Pax assaulted the Leman Russ and and Assault Marines and DC assaulted
each of thier targets. The Dreadnought did no damage (as its Power Fist
was gone), but the DC and Assualt Squad wiped out both thier opponants
with no losses.
We rolled to see if the game ended (I was playing hard at this time)...but
at least one more turn was ours...(*sigh*)...
Turn 6-
The remaining guardsmen advanced at the FS Squad got into the factory!
The Chimera was at last in range of somthing and fired at the DC...and
2 of them dropped dead! (I'm saying nothing...)
All my units advanced on the factory bar the Dreadnought which didnt
move. The DC moved towards the FS Team.
DC killed 1 guard. Pax destroyed the Leman Russ (Boom!), and a giant
fireball lite up the street as the fuel tanks ignited.
The DC assualted the remained FS members, and killed 4of them, causing
them to rout with terror. The DC consolidated backwards.
Roll for next turn...one more at least...
Turn 7-
FS team doesn't rally and remaining 3 members of the AF Squad move into
the factory.
No causualties from shooting.
The DC move against the last guardsmen. Pax moves into a firign position
against the Chimera. The rest to the army moves up.
I don't fire Chaplain Gorch's Plasma Pistol as he has a wound already
and I didn't want him to die! The last DC marine misses with his Bolt Pistol.
Pax misses with his Lascannon (ah well...).
The DC assault the AF Squad and easily wipe them out.
Roll for next turn...what do you know?
Turn 8-
FS Team doesn't rally and Chimera misses Pax.
My Assault Squad moves into the factory and the objective is secure!
We roll again and this time...game over!
Blood Angels Victory!!!
That was a really close game! I almost lost during several points. It
was hard fighting off so many guardsmen with so few marines. When my Assault
Squad turned up, however, the tides turned very quickly and the Imperial
Guard were desparate (my friend actaully assaulted this game! He NEVER
assaults normally! ). I was very impressed at how well we fought (and was
appalled by the amount of 5+ saves he made in close combat...). Simply,
one of the best games ever!
Cityfight is very challanging...maybe you should all try it sometime.
The scenerio was fun too, very hard for both sides.
Any mistakes you think I made? Or my friend for that matter? Your views?
Glory to the Imperium!
