Blood Angels vs Necrons
1000pt Battle

The GW shop in Ontario, CA had an all day open gaming event in honor of the Grand Tournament. So I took my freshly painted 1000 point BA army for a good old time. This game was my 2nd official game at a GW shop (all my other games have been with my other newbie friends and have been around 500 points) and my first game above 500. I got pitted against a veteran player with a nice new Necron army... needless to say, I was nervous!

It was a 4' by 4' table, we each deployed within 12" on each side. Terrain was scattered, but I had a lot of cover & concealment on my side that I used rather well. Here's what I had with me:

Blood Angels

HQ: Chaplain with Jump pack and I rolled for 7 DC with jump packs (sweet!!!)

Elite: A nicely painted and really mean Furioso Dreadnaught

Fast Attack: 2 land speeders with Multi Meltas

Troops: 2 10man Tac squads, each with a missile launcher and flamer, and each with a vet sergeant with power fist and plasma pistol. No rhinos. And an 8 man squad of scouts with 1 heavy bolter. Sergeant was not a vet.

approx 1000 points (sorry i cant get too detailed... but I'm at work)

Necrons:

he had a necron lord with 6 immortals, 2 wraiths, 3 destroyers, 2 squads of 12 necron warriors.

approx 1000 points.

the battle:

I deployed my furioso and 1 tac (affectionately called TAC1) squad behind the hill that was on the right side of the board, so he couldn't shoot at them. I deployed my scouts behind some cover about half way up the board, and the other tac squad coming up on the left of the hill. my land speeders were in the open, and my HQ with DC were also in the open.

I cant remember the exact turns so I'll just sum it up

He basically used his destroyers to go on top of the hill on the right and shoot at TAC1 and FURIOSO. But I met him there and took all three of them out. They took out 1 marine from TAC1 and stunned my FURIOSO with a glancing hit that kept him out of a turn. I then swept in with TAC1 and engaged one of his Necron Warrior squads. The remaining 2 turns had me losing 2 marines and him losing 6 warriors. He made a couple "we'll be back" saves, but I just kept hacking away. My FURIOSO got close to the assault, but by the end of turn 4 he was still a little too far to engage.

His Necron Lord had this magic teleporter thingy, so he teleported to the middle of the board with his immortals and took out one of my speeders. But my scouts and DC were close enough to engage him and I caused him some good hurting. I took out 3 immortals and he didnt get me at all (thank the tech priests for such awesome armor saves). His next turn came up and he rolled all 1s when he tried to resurect those immortals... obviously the Emperor's light was shining brighter on my dice, anyways he decided to teleport away from my DC & Scouts, becuase i guess the Necrons have this ability, and (again, bad dice rolls) ended up teleporting to within 14 inces of my DC. So, my next turn I jetpacked 12, shot, and then assaulted his lord and immortals again with my awesome DC. My chaplain took out his lord and my DC easily finished up his immortals. Again, he didn't roll any resurections. He rolled pretty bad this game.

My other tac squad (TAC2) got shot up on their way to engaging his 2nd squad of Necron Warriors. So I was down to 7 marines when I finally engaged him. My scouts also went forward, but behind the relative safety of cover and they were able to engage them too. The assault lasted the final 2 turns killing 2 marines and 3 scouts but leaving only 4 necrons to tell the tale of their defeat.

I think that's about it. Anyway, as you can see, I tore him apart. Dice played a big part in the game, because he just kept missing his armor saves and his resurection rolls. I hit the dice pretty good, but I had superior troop placement, and I used cover to take away his shooting advantage. I think he was a bit overconfident too since he knew that I'm a newbie (been in the hobby for about 3 and a half months). So maybe he thought I'd make more mistakes than I did.

But the most important thing about this game was that I had an absolute blast!!! Yeah, winning played a part in that, but I just had so much fun... I'm so glad that I found this hobby. And I have to say I couldn't have done it without Brother Edward's awesome site, and the awesome advice of this board. Thanks again!

This post is getting a bit long, so I'll leave now. But remind me another time to tell you about the battle that followed... my blood angels versus another blood angel player! DC versus DC... it was sweet!!! I didn't win (I had 4 marines left compared to his 8) but we pretty much decimated each other. It was great!!!
