Blood Angel Chapter Banners

In the 2nd edition "Angels of Death" codex it is written that the Blood Angels devote some of their great lifespan to perfecting works of art which honor their service to the Emperor, that their banners and iconography reflect skills acquired through centuries of study. Making banners for Blood Angels armies is therefore something of a challenge to rise to, but it is a fun challenge which many find very rewarding! Here are some of my works and techniques, along with an archive of examples of other banners & standards sent in from fellow Blood Angel players! I hope these works help and inspire you are much as they have helped and inspired me!

If you have questions about how to make banners, please ask them
in the modeling forum of our

Brother Edward's Banners & Standards

In my experience the most "realistic" banners are hand painted onto kleanex tissue - it wrinkles much like fabric! Paint the tissue the desired main color, let dry completely - then add details!
So have a look through the images in our Blood Angel Banner Archive, be inspired by these amazing works and begin your own journey of creativity!

The biggest image of our chapter banner that I've found,
a photo of a lifesize banner from a convention - sorry it's not a straight on photo!

The most widely recognized standards of the Blood Angels
as shown in the long out of print 2nd edition "Angels of Death" codex.

feel free to print this one out for your armies! :)

if you print this one be sure to go over the red with red ink to darken it, and perhaps a few streaks of fleshwash to "age" it!! :)
The upper left corner is traditionally for your squad number, I've left it blank so you can fill in as needed.

when I printed it out I painted over the red design with red ink and it darkened to a nice deep red.
I use this particular banner on the back of my character banners and my dreadnoughts. Colorful as the fronts of my banners are - they all have a single design on the back (the red Blood Angels symbol on a black background) for the purpose of clear identification on the battlefield. :)
