~ A classic challenge for the Blood Angels, can we reach them before taking too many losses to shooting? My deep thanks go out to TankKommander from the GW 40K board for sharing this report with us! ~ Brother Edward

Battle Report: Assault heavy IG vs. Blood Angels!!! (**GASP**!)

Mission: RECON!! (**GASP**)!!

Thank the Booda (My Armies Emperor, the Boodonian Legions [Booda is my dog!]), I got to go first!

He was playing with 2 assault squads, 3 sqauds(2 mounted), a Dreadnought, an HQ mounted, and Devastators.

Against my IG Assault Army. About the same troop size.

Terrain was basically a 4x6 table, with a big jungle terrain pice about 22" wide and 18" across, going longways with the table. There were two spots of forest in his corners, and I had two buildings with a fence around one in mine.

Turn 1:

My Riders moved 9" (trot special rule, move 9" assault 9") up from the center my my edge to the forest, one behind the other so as no one could shoot at them. My Ogryns followed close behind.

I set up both HQs on the right side in their Chimeras by the building, not moving them out yet, and in a hail of (rather weak to 12 armor) I got lucky and shot his Dreadnought down to it's CC weapon. On the other side of the map, I moved my 2 sqauds of regular infantry up to the fences around the building, and moved the Chimera around behind them and behind a building, pooping off three shots with it's Multi-laser and scratched the paint on a Rhino.

He moved his assault sqaud on the left side of the field up, along with one of his Rhinos with a sqaud in it's super-charged engine (which needs to be toned down..). Nailing 4 of my front men with their shooting in one of my sqauds. Thankfully they staied there (comm-links!). He moved his other Rhino troop to the center of the board (big jungle piece) and unloaded. He moved his last unloaded sqaud the same way..his HQ moved toward my HQ Chimera, and so did his Dreadnaught. His devastators got a glancing 2 on my main HQ Chimera (OOooooOOOOoo..).

Turn 2:

I moved my Riders again 9 inches into the thick of the woods. my Ogryns trudged behind them 6". My sqauds on the left shot at his assault sqaud and nailed two guys with lasguns, and one guy burnt himself to death with his own damned rifle! The Chimera popped out into the open and again, and got a Stun on his Rhino.

I moved oth HQs out, my main plopped down right in front of his

Dreadnough (Hell yeah!), and my other unloaded right in front of his main. Pistol, Stormbolter, and flamer shots from the sqauds sent three Marines burning from his HQ..then we charged in for the fun!

His Dread went first, only scoring two hits, and failing to wound once. I made the invulnerable save (Thanks be to the Booda!), and got my 10 strike-backs. Hit 8 times, three 6s, and wiped his dreadnought out in one turn of assault. My other HQ, didn't fair too well. He took out all four of my regular Guardsmen (big surprise there eh?), and put my Commissar and Lieutenant down to one wound a piece. I killed 5 of his Marines, and put a wound on his leader. Check saved. My Main HQ consolidated back to their Chimera.

His turn, he assault my two squads on the left, and moved his two sqauds in the forests up a bit, and sent that Rhino around towards my HQ. His Devastators shot my weaker HQ's Chimera to pieces..His assault on my left side against my 2 sqauds went well for him. Killed off the rest of the sqaud that was weakend by fire and got 4 more of the other sqaud, but they took 3 Marines down with them. They failed the check but ran 3" ahead of his men (he rolled bad for his pursuit with jump pack troops). On my right side, his HQ finished off mine but I managed to take his HQ down to 4 men. He couldn't get far enough to sweep so he consolidated back 3".

Turn 3:

My Riders moved up into the forest, spreading out against both sqauds so they could get the most attacks possible. My Ogryns went to the left side, trodding along as slow as they come. I unloaded my sqaud over there, and managed to get a Marine of his asault sqaud, and one more in the regular sqaud with mine that fell back over there.

On the other side of the board, my Main HQ got back into the Chimera and it sped away, popping smoke.

In my assault phase, I assaulted his assault marines on the left with my Armored Fist sqaud, losing 4 but killing 2...

My Rough Riders charged right into his sqauds in the forest with frag grenandes, losing 6 of their own (3 in each sqaud), but smacked the hell out of both sqauds and left but 2 men standing in each.

In his turn, he moved his HQ back farther, and took some pot shots at my Chimera knocking out both weapons and getting another Stun on it.

He totally wiped the sqauds on the left, with about half of both of his sqauds left, and swept on towards my Ogryns.

His sqauds in the center he pulled back, not getting far enough out of the way to be assault again by my cavalry, but out of the woods.

Turn 4:

I moved my main up to meet his, and killed the last Marine off, leaving only our Officers to fight in Close Comabt (my regular guys weren't going to do crap to his).

In the middle, I charged the hell into his two remaining sqauds with my Riders, he took out another man in both squads, but they both passed their checks and I wiped out what was left of his. My Ogryns shot at, then charged into his regular Marines that were moving towards them, taking 5 wounds but killing off the rest of his sqaud.

My Main HQ lost it's Commissar (**taps**), but wiped the floor with his HQ, killing everyone and sweeping into his Devastators.

In his turn, he counter-charged my Ogryns with his assault sqaud, nailing all but one of them, I managed to knock off and kill his regular sqaud with my remaning Ogryn. He failed his check and was chopped to pieces by his assault sqaud which ran him down.

He nailed my remaning Gaurdsmen with his shooting and his CC attacks with his Devastators, I killed all but three of his men off with my Colonel.

Turn 5:

My Rider sqauds moved back towards his assault sqauds, pincering them so as he had to go through one of them. My HQ finished off what was left of his Devastators and took a coffee break for the rest of the game with their Chimera.

In his turn, he charged my Rough Rider sqaud directly in front of him, nailing all but two of my Riders, but they loved it strking back and killing on of his men, rolling snake eyes for their test and keeping them there for meat for my other squad.

Turn 6:

I moved my other Rider sqaud in for the kill, nailing the last of his assault men in a deadly charge.

I won!!!! With an Assault Heavy IG Army against BLOOD ANGELS!!! Like the Romans used to say - "The Corpse of an enemy always smells sweet."
